A view of upgrade work on Stock Road from more than a year ago — the project is advancing rapidly and the contractors expect to have completed it by October 2018.

Martin & East updates business owners on Stock Road upgrade

The contractors responsible for upgrades to Stock Road for the City’s Integrated Rapid Transport and Non-Motorised Transport systems have provided businesses an update on progress.

Knight Piésold and Martin & East said in a letter to businesses that while there would be a break in their part of the work for the MyCity project over the year-end period, work would start again on 8 January. The planned completion date for the work is October 2018.

The work was divided into four phases: Phases 1, 2 and 3 are complete apart from some of the non-motorised transport elements and streetlight provision, while the current work is being undertaken to address Phase 4.

So far, the contractors say, they have completed the following in relation to services and roads:

  • Services: Stormwater and ducts are 75% complete
  • Roads: Box cut and sub-base (G6) are 100% complete, Stabilization of sub-base(C3) and subsoil drains are 45% complete.

In a letter to Philippi businesses, the contractors said that the new traffic signals have been affected by vandalism and theft, making it difficult to maintain the system, and adding significant cost to the project.
